Alienor Dufetel, born in 1994 in Paris, France, is a contemporary fiber artist working between Canada, the United States, and Europe.
She completed her studies in Paris, Miami, Montreal, and Rimouski. At the International Studies Charter High School in Miami, she graduated with a dual diploma: a scientific French baccalaureate and an American high school diploma with distinctions.
Moving from the United States to Montreal, Canada, Alienor received a B.A. from Concordia University, specializing in the Human Environment and continued afterwards to study Literature and Art History.
Deeply passionate about mapping, remote sensing, spatial imagery and geomorphology, Alienor has practiced aviation in Canada and France which has complemented her studies of the natural environment. These interests drew her to the Lower Saint-Lawrence region of Northern Quebec, famous for once having ice sheets which left a noticeable trace on the landscape. She studied coastal dynamics and its associated risks on the human environment, as well as geomorphology.
It is from the inherent beauty in the natural world that Alienor draws inspiration from for her woven creations. Her research on environmental data and in situ observations of the remnants of the Laurentide ice sheet converge in her first series of large format tapestries. She is keenly focused on the formal element of surface texture in her compositions.
In her practice, Alienor draws links in her revisited woven landscapes between subject matter typically viewed as distinct, such as aviation, art, and environmental studies.
